TOWNHOUSE GROUND FLOOR TRANSFORMATION

LOCATION

Warwick

SCOPE

Ground floor layout remodeling and interior concept exploration

THE CHALLENGE

The homeowners loved many aspects of their townhouse but felt increasingly constrained by the existing ground floor layout. They wanted a larger, more sociable kitchen and family space, but were unsure whether the house could realistically deliver what they were looking for.

Before committing to a major renovation, they wanted to understand whether relocating the kitchen to the rear of the property would genuinely transform the way they lived or whether moving home would ultimately be the better solution. The challenge was to evaluate the potential of the existing house and gain confidence that the investment would be worthwhile.

WHAT WE EXPLORED

A fully interactive virtual model was created to test whether relocating the kitchen to the rear of the property could deliver the larger, more sociable living space the homeowners were looking for. A new layout was explored to understand how cooking, dining and family life could work together within a single open-plan environment.

The model was also used to evaluate whether the front reception room, currently used as a gym and general storage space, could become a more valuable part of the home. We explored how opening this room up to the kitchen could create a secondary seating area and encourage greater use of the space on a day-to-day basis.

Another key area of investigation was the wall separating the entrance hall from the kitchen. Various options were tested, including relocating the wall and introducing glazed elements, to understand how greater visual connections between the spaces could create a brighter and more open feel whilst still maintaining a sense of arrival within the home.

Alongside the architectural changes, interior design concepts, materials, colours and lighting schemes were developed to help the homeowners understand not only how the renovated layout would function, but how the finished space could feel.

CLIENT FEEDBACK

It gave us the confidence to make decisions we'd never have trusted ourselves to make on paper.

THE OUTCOME

By experiencing the proposed renovation in VR, the homeowners were able to answer the question that had prompted the project in the first place: could this house become the home they wanted it to be?

The virtual model provided confidence that relocating the kitchen, opening up connections between key spaces and making better use of underutilised rooms would fundamentally improve how the home functioned and felt. Rather than relying on drawings and assumptions, decisions could be evaluated from the perspective of everyday living before committing to the renovation itself.

Most importantly, the process provided the clarity needed to move forward with confidence, knowing that the investment would create a home better suited to the way the family wanted to live.
